The European Parliament voted on Thursday to ban single-use plastics from 2021 in a bid to curb the increasing pollution of the sea and the ecological environment by plastic waste.
Under the proposal, the production and sale of single-use plastic products such as cutlery, cotton swabs and straws would be banned in the EU from 2021.
These products will be replaced by paper, straws or reusable hard plastics.
Plastic bottles will be recycled separately according to the existing recycling model.
EU member states will require 90 percent recycling of single-use plastic bottles by 2025.
